My Week in Review

Since last Wednesday, which started out as a glorious day (because I signed my teaching contract) until today, I've been stressed out emotional. After picking up my contract last Wednesday, Clint and I went to Taco Bell to grab something to eat. I noticed that I had a missed call on my cell phone and a new voice message. This is when it began.

The message was a message of panic from my grandparents neighbor Heidi. She said something was wrong with my grandpa, and that they were calling 911. I instantly looked at Clint and said that Grandpa had another stroke. I went outside to call them, and or course the line was busy. My mom was in Chicago at her yearly Pampered Chef convention, and my dad I hoped was at home.

When I finally got through Dad answered the phone and said that the EMT's where there and getting ready to transport him to the hospital. I was stuck in Sedalia. Clint had church band practice and I had gone with to pick up my contract. I sat in the church and did what I do best. Worry, and hope that mom took the news well.

I finally arrived at the ER just in time to see my grandfather before they life flight him to St. Luke's in Kansas City (the one off the Plaza). They had given him so experimental drug to get rid of the clot in his brain that was causing the stroke. As they took him to the helicopter he was completely paralyzed on his left side. The rest of that evening was a blur, it involved calming my mom down over the cell phone because she was a wreck in Chicago and the last flight had already taken off from the airport (did I mention it's not like 10 when this is happening, it started at 6:45), I rode to the hospital with my brother and sister-in-law. Saw grandpa, Shannon picked me up and I stayed at her house, then went to work and then back to the hospital the next day.

My grandfather has had every test you can think of run on him. The doctor (who I think is a witch with a big ol' B, as does the rest of my family) doesn't have a good bed side manner. She was really blunt to us, which I guess she has to be, but show a little compassion. We were told that he has been having strokes since the first one in his sleep. Which explains some things that have been going on lately.

Grandpa hasn't been in the best of moods either. His right brain (the affected part) is still in somewhat control. The left brain is trying to take over to get him to be reasonable and friendly again. We've had to explain to him several times that he can't come home right away that he's going to have to go to a rehab home and get his strength back, because grandma can't take care of him.

If everything goes well, and hopefully it will, he'll be coming back to Warrensburg tomorrow to live in the Country Club, until the VA home has an open bed. This whole thing has been really stressful for grandma. There's been a couple days where she couldn't go to the hospital because it was just so tough on her.

Did I mention that we are moving the 28th and 29th. So add packing a whole house ontop of everything. Oh, and Clint starting his new job, and Oh yea, making trips to the school to pick up items.

Fun Fun Fun

Let's add the sprinkles, we have to keep the house in somewhat order because people are coming over to look at it. So try packing and keeping the house clean. It's a trip.

Poor Slink is so confused with all the boxes. Everytime I start to pack he starts to cry. Clint has been having "talks" with him explaining that we are moving. Somehow I don't think he quite gets it.

I've run out of boxes for the second time. Gotta go get more.

I love moving!
