Let's Have a Party

Today Slinky turned 6 years old. Clint and I celebrated his birthday by getting him some new toys, a new leash, collar, and a brand new kennel (which is still in process of being shipped from Petco). Slinky also got some homemade bread and some beef jerky for his birthday feast. Clint and I had a nice dinner since it was his birthday.

Let me introduce you to Hoops and YoYo. A new site that I love!

These guys are cute. They have their own little animated series on the website, as well as stuff you can buy, wall-papers for your computer and screen savers. Most of the screen savers make noise so be prepared. Check it out!

Today was a good day at work. I got there and there was a memo in my box about various things. Some of these things included needing teachers for Saturday mornings, and some teachers to teach some one week summer classes. I've already signed up to teach a class in July on building fractions, and decieded that Clint and I could use the extra cash so I signed up to teach a test-taking strategies class in June. Its $150 per class so there's another $300 in my July paycheck. Which will help Clint go to Indy.

Unfornately I will not be going to Indy this year again. I've come to cope with the fact. Being a first year teacher, I will have to be getting my classroom ready, also we really can't afford it. No biggie.

I rather be teaching anyway!!!

Thought Wrong

Well... I've spent the last oh... 2 hours or so working on an application for Odessa R-VII school district. I went onto good ol' MoReap this morning to check for new job postings, and Odessa was on there for 5th grade. Just posted today. I called the school as instructed on the site, filled out all the paperwork (Lots of paperwork) went over to Barb's office to fax it. I felt good faxing it because I spotted the opening THE DAY IT WAS POSTED. Got home, started to work on house work and the phone rings.

"Hello"

"Is this Cassie Krause?"

"Yes, this is she."

"Mrs. Billings [Principal for Odessa Middle School where the 5th grade opening is], wanted me to let you know that all the positions have be filled. And that she is antipating no more openings for the 2006-2007 school year. Thank you for your application, it will be kept on file."

"I understand, thank you for calling."

-End phone call

I was left sitting in the chair speechless for five minutes. DO I really have THAT BAD of KARMA when it comes to getting a teaching job? In a matter of hours from the time the posting went up, and me filling out everything the job has been filled. I'm seriously beginning to doubt ever getting my dream job. No dream job . . . no teaching overseas. . .

Welcome to the land of self- doubt and depression, Mrs. Cassie Krause

Oh Happy Day . . . Yesterday

Yesterday was a wonderful day. Clint and I went out had a nice dinner and then went to see the Da Vinci Code. It was a good movie, there were some very different parts from the book, but what movie isn't like that. Clint had never read the book, so it was fun watching his face when the teacher was revealed, and at the ending.

We've been watching Clint's sister's Gayla's dog this weekend, Lexi and Buster. Both are exteremly cute, so after the movie we went over to her place and let the dogs out. When we came home Slinky was realy excited to see us. When I took him outside. . . HE POOPED!!! Oh Happy Day. Slinky pooping outside was the best moment of the day. Hopefully this is a trend that he will keep up.

We are going to get the bikes cleaned up today, and go riding I believe. Family BBQ tonight, will be fun. I'm making jello as well as pumpkin spice bars. Yum!!!

Busy Morning

So my morning started at 6:30am when the alarm went off. I decieded that I had too much stuff to do to lay in bed until 8 and then get up. Yesterday, Clint and I signed all the paperwork to consolidate all of our loans. One monthly payment is going to be a whole heck of a lot nicer than say 5-6, and paying interest. We got a locked in interest rate that they, Wells Fargo, can't touch. Beautiful. We were given checks to pay off our credit cards and loans, so I went ahead this morining and got all that taken care of. I'm looking at a large stack of letters that are ready to go out once I leave the house.

I've been working like crazy and the house can atest to that. I've been trying to finish the laundry since Tuesday. One more load to wash and then I'm officially caught up on that. I cleaned the kitchen like a mad woman. It had been awhile since I'd mopped and cleaned everything so the Kitchen is done. Bathroom is done as well. I managed to get the bedroom done yesterday, so I've only got two more rooms to do. The office, which consists of Clint putting the huge stack of gaming books back onto the shelf where they belong, and then sweeping and swiffering. Shouldn't take so long, after Clint puts away the books. He has all his game books organized in a specific way, so me putting them away isn't a good idea. Then the living room. I usually do the living room last because I throw things into there that don't belong in said room I'm cleaning. Also, I can relax in the living room once clean. If I clean it first I'll want to relax then and there and forget the rest of the house.

I've got a dentist appointment at 1pm today. Then I'll come back and finish up the house. It will be nice and clean when the boys come over to game tonight. I'll be gone. I'm going to go see Over the Hedge. Clint's not to thrilled about going to see those type of movies, so I'm going with my mom and dad.

Tomorrow Night Clint and I are going to go out and have a nice dinner someplace and then go to a movie. We haven't gone to a movie in a while, so it will be nice to get cleaned up nice and have a romantic night just the two of us. Sure we spend most of our time just the two of us, but it's different when you get dressed up and go out. Makes you feel good inside.

That's what's important in any relationship, making each other feel good.

Quote of the Day

I've decided that I'm going to try and do a quote of the day. A good friend bought me this desk calendar for teachers at the start of the year, and there's been days where the quote has made a huge difference.

So here's today's quote:

"Do not squander time for that is the stuff life is made of."
- Benjamin Franklin

Blog Changes

So I decided to update how my blog looks. I think it looks nice. I've added some sites that I visit regularly. I'll add some more later, this was just to see if I could figure out how to do that sort of thing in html, since I'm not computer wiz.

I've also added the pod-casts that I listen to on a regular basis as well. Yeah, I'm a history nerd, and that's why I listen to two pod casts about history. Then you have the teacher in me coming out with the Storynory pod-cast. It's rather cute if you ask me. Teach42 is interesting as well. Although 21st Learn only has a few pod-casts, they are worth listening too.

Pay Day!!!

Today is my first Pay Day from Sylvan. I totally thought that getting a pay check would be this awesome. Well. . . for the most part because Clint has been the big bread winner the last month and a half I've felt like a total slacker in the money making business, although I've been working. I had last night off, so that was nice. Hoping that I get to go in today. Don't get me wrong, I love having days off. . . but I would prefer those to be the weekends, which I always have off. We went to see Clint's nephew Trace play baseball last night. He almost hit one out of the park. Not bad for a soon to be fourth grader.

I was so proud of myself yesterday. Our cupboards are getting pretty bare, which is a good thing. It means that all that food that was bought at the shower in November (it was a stock the pantry Bridal Shower) has almost been eaten. Anyways . . . I was CRAVING Brownies. Not just any brownies. I wanted gooey fudgy brownies. However, Pay Day is today not yesterday. So I pulled out my "Dining on a Dime" cookbook, and began to flip through the pages trying to find a brownie recipe that had the same ingrendients that I had in my cabinets. I hit jack-pot! Find the best most awesome brownie recipe in the whole world. Made them. . . Clint came home happy to know I didn't have to work. . . Hamburger Helper ready to eat. . . fresh tea. . . oh yeah and my homemade from scratch brownies. They didn't last very long. We both ate way to many brownies yesterday but they were damn good. I also made homemade Mac and Cheese from scratch yesterday for dinner. Yum... pretty tasty too.

I'm looking forward to next week. I start working from 8:30-12:30 M-F. Which will be nice because then I can cook again. It's been rough not being able to have dinner or lunch with Clint. Our schedules haven't been the same for a litte while, but starting next week, that changes. We've also decided that we are going to start biking again. Clint' job this week is to get the bikes ready to ride starting this weekend. I'm excited about that. Clint was big into biking before we starting dating, in fact he rode through Ireland while in High School. I want to do that as well, but it takes ALOT of training, so we are starting that.

No word on any job yet. But I'm staying positive. The light bulb came on the other day for me. I have lots of options for myself with my degree, and I'll find something. Even if I have to sub or be a para for the 2006-2007 school year. I should hear something from Harrisonville the end of this week or so. I've also applied for a job in Excelsior Springs, MO (North of Liberty on 69 Hwy). Something is bound to happen. All my bad Karma is about to turn into good Karma at some point here in the near future.

I think I might make another batch of those brownies. . .

The Verge

So I had ANOTHER job interview yesterday, that once again has has the same results of all the other interviews. a big fat no job offer. I'm so tired of hearing the same line, we want someone with more teaching experience. Fine I get it, you want someone who's been teaching for awhile. HOWEVER... you receive my resume in the mail BEFORE the interview, you clearly see I just finished school, looking for my FIRST job... Why even call me and give me a tiny chance of hope? I'm so down in the dumps, that I'm not even sure I want to continue to look for a teaching job. I've applied at EVERY district in the area, I contact them in some sort of fashion at least once a week if not more for certain districts, and yet here it is almost the middle of May and I still have not had a job offer. Very depressing. Clint says to keep postitive. that's really hard to do at the moment. Crying comes easily these days when another "sorry the job went to someone else" comes through on the other line, or through a very nicely written letter on the district's letter head, not signed, but stamped by the person giving the rejection.

Yes, at least I'm teaching at Sylvan, and I LOVE every minute of it. Without a doubt, if I didn't have that. I would be going completely insane wanting to know why no one wants to hire me to teach. At least Sylvan loves how I'm doing, and they tell me that everyday. Even today when I was late. Not by my own fault, but was rewarding for being a trooper during a mis-understanding. Walking in the door from an appointment at 415, knowing I have to leave in 15minutes to head into work, to find a message for Sylvan saying I was told the wrong teaching times. Can be pretty upsetting after my previous phone calls today. I was told I was to teach 630 and 730 instructional hours. Meaning I needed to leave at 430, pull books at 530 and then teach. WRONG i needed to leave at 230, pull at 330 and teach at 430 530 & 630. Needless to say I lost a full hour of teaching, and other teachers had to cover for me. I felt so horrible, that I was on the verge of tears, for the second time today, when i was calling them now at 425.

They were awesome about the whole thing. They figured I didnt get the message when i didn't show up at my normal 1 hour before teaching, so they had pulled my books, and moved my 430 students. I was rattled, and somewhat disorganized for my 530 hour. Luckily I only had 2 students, so I could somewhat relax and be ready for the 630 hour and my three students.

I've made a promise to myself and it goes like this:

"If I am unable to get a teaching job for the 2006-2007 school year I, Cassie Krause, will take my GRE, in the fall, and begin Graduate School in Jan. of 2007."

It's too late to take the GRE now and start in Aug, plus this gives me a total of 1 year of from school before starting my Masters.

I just want some security for Clint and myself. I feel like now, I'm not providing the security for us because I'm not pulling my weight income wise. I don't get paid until the end of this month. So it's been really rough. We are trying to save for our big trip to GenCon, a trip that I really need, however, if our income doesn't pick up I might not be able to go. Clint needs to go for his writing career, I want to go for a final vacation of the summer. Hopefully this will work out, or something for Christ's sake.

I hate being of the verge of utter insanity

Work

I whole heartedly love my job. It rocks. Everyone is really nice, and so helpful whenever I have a question or need help for that matter. I started on Monday teaching by myself, after one month of training. My DE (Director of Education) said that he was impressed with how well my notebooks looked after I turned them down. That was very exciting for me that he was happy with my work.

Right now I'm working Monday-Thursday Nights. Eventually I would like to get 20 hours in those 4 days, but it all depends on the students enrolled in the program. Starting in June, I will be working Monday-Friday Mornings from 8:30-12:30. Which means I get to get up around 5:45, so I can be ready to leave around 6:30. I always arrive atleast 1 hour before hand to pull my matierals. In September, I'll get my training check. Which will be a nice little bonus after our trip to Indy.

I interviewed with the Crest Ridge School District last Thursday. I will know something here soon. I know a few teachers in that district that said they would put in a good word for me, as well as my mom's boss's husband knows the Principal at the Elementary School. Although after the Pleasant Hill ordeal, I'm not going to get my hopes up like I did, only to have them crushed.

I've been doing what preping I can for whatever classroom I'll be teaching in. In fact, I just just found an AWESOME website, that has LOTS of materials for teachers to print off, and joining the website is FREE... glorious sounds to my ears, a broke teacher who is married to a writer. I love free teaching websites, most of them are free, but there are some that you have to pay for.

All in all, things are going well. Clint's beard is getting long for him at least, and I'm getting used to it finally.

More later!!!
